SMBA and LACBA Family Law Sections Present:
Cross Over Issues between Family Law and Juvenile Dependency Law
Presented by Paula S. Teske, Esq.
What do you do when your Client calls in a panic that his or her Child is being interviewed at school by a Social Worker stranger, and the topic is alleged child abuse by your Client? What do you recommend when your Client calls informing you that he or she found a Child Social Worker's business card in the screen door, with a note asking that your Client call? What do you say when your Client opens the door and a Deputy Sheriff and a Social Worker are at the door insisting upon seeing and speaking with your Client's Child?
We've all had cases where our Client's actions in a nasty divorce or paternity action adversely affect his or her children.
This Talk will be a lively presentation about what might happen if your Client's Divorce or Paternity Case spirals out of control, and lands his or her Children in a very different judicial forum, the Juvenile Dependency Court, where the risk to a child's safety as seen by a Social Worker (and confirmed by a Judge) is foremost, and the Parent's actions my cost them temporary or permanent loss of the custody of their Child.
